Davie Provan Incredibly Links Goalkeeper To Celtic

The goalkeeping debate at Celtic will be stuff of folklore in years to come. Vasilis Barkas looks like he will be remembered with such Celtic legends as Carl Muggleton, Tony Cascarino and Raphael Sheidt, unless he starts to up his game.

The early evidence suggests that it’s business as usual for the Greek international keeper and unless there is a dramatic change in fortune and form, Ange Postecoglou will need to dip into the transfer market to replace Barkas and quick.

His half hearted attempt at trying to save Evander’s curling free kick seems to be the last straw for the Hoops fans but it does seem Ange will stick by his number one keeper for the foreseeable future.

There is one man though that has been tipped by former Celtic midfielder, Davie Provan, to take over and he has urged Postecoglou to make his a club an offer and that is former Parkhead stopper Craig Gordon.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Provan was 100% serious and suggested Celtic should eat humble pie and get him back to Glasgow, “Buy Craig Gordon from Hearts. You’re laughing but, put your hands up, and admit you’ve made a mistake. Absolutely.”

At 38 years old, I think that ship has sailed now for Gordon and it would be unlikely that Hearts would want to sell their captain to one of their direct rivals.

On reflection, losing Gordon last season does seem like a howler of a mistake but like all things, everything looks clearer with the benefit of hindsight.
