Terrible news broke today about Celtic legend Bertie Auld as it was revealed the Lisbon Lion has been diagnosed with the debilitating disease dementia.
Wee Bertie is much loved amongst the Celtic fans and football world as he regaled everyone with his stories, wit and all round charm whenever in his company.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Bertie but from what I have read about him and seen from his fleeting appearances on television, he was an infectious character who always had time to speak to the Celtic supporters.
The tributes on Twitter poured in after the news of his diagnosis and the sheer scale of them showed just how loved he was by all.
The club where the first to break the news with a touching message from the Lisbon Legend’s family, ” Bertie Auld`s family would like all #CelticFC fans and football fans in general to keep Bertie in their prayers as they confirmed today that he is suffering with Dementia. Our thoughts are with Bertie and his family”
And as soon as the news spread, the tributes came flooding in from far and wide:
