“THE CLUB IS OK” – LENNONS INCREDIBLE ASSESSMENT CONTINUES TO PROVE WHY HE IS NOT MISSED AT CELTIC
Let me start of by saying this. I was happy enough when Neil Lennon was appointed caretaker manager after Brendan Rodgers left us in the lurch more than half way through the season in 2019.
When the Treble Treble was secured and he was (allegedly) hired permanently in the showers, again, my initial reaction was “Yeah, he started it so why not finish it?”
And throughout the Quadruple Treble season the Northern Irishman done extremely well to clinch an historic Quadruple Treble albeit, stuttering across the line against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final.
Lennon eventually fell on his sword as the ten in a row season unravelled and even as early as the Champions League exit to Ferencvaros, I was still happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Lennon should have walked after Ross County. No question. But he stuck around, dug in his heels and doubled down against his critics. The rest, as you all well know, is history.
Lennon has recently embarked on a media charm offensive where he attacked a “new breed” of fans that were the reason why the team didn’t perform last season and in a report today, it’s now the turn of the players.
That in itself doesn’t surprise me but it was his next comment struck me as particularly strange and proves that he is so out of touch with supporters, it is best he is not involved at Celtic anymore, “I think Eddie (Howe) was first choice or talks had been ongoing for a while. Everyone uses words like ‘disaster’ but it’s not – the club is okay and the players are okay.
“He’s (Postecoglou) got a blank canvas and it might take time for him to put his own stamp on things and get the style of play he wants.
“I wouldn’t be worried about it if I was a Celtic fan, I’d be excited by it. Ange should embrace it, enjoy it – and just win.”
We have no captain. No fully functioning first team squad. A raft of first team players entering their final year of contract. At least four automatic first picks ACTIVELY looking to leave this summer. No recognised back four and goalkeepers who, quite frankly, should not be anywhere near the Celtic bench never mind first team, but yeah. It’s not a disaster.
Neil just needs to hold his counsel. Keep quiet and move on. Whatever he says is an irrelevance and it seems he is sticking stubbornly to his narrative of blaming everyone but himself.
