Deleted Mystery Tweet Claims Celtic Star Is “Free Agent”

Leigh Griffiths has been the subject of intense speculation since it was first revealed that Celtic may not be taking up the option of extending his contract by a further year.

With the former Scotland hitman being linked with a return to his old club, Hibs,  it is still not known whether or not Griffiths will, in fact, remain at the Hoops. Until now.

This afternoon, Griffiths brother Aaron, tweeted a cryptic message which seemed to suggest that Griffiths has in fact been freed, “Not without a contract from Celtic he won’t he’s a free agent as far as I’m aware”.

The tweet was screenshot by user @Conor67_ as it was swiftly deleted which prompted many fans to wonder if the popular striker has in fact been released by the club.

Griffiths has not been without his controversies this season as his well reported off field issues have seriously impacted his ability to not only break through to the Celtic first team, but also the national squad.

The Celtic support are split on whether or not Griffiths should be offered a new deal for next season, but with Patryk Klimala already gone and Odsonne Edouard looking more likely to be heading to Leicester City, the question is not whether Celtic can afford to extend Griffiths contract but can they afford not to?
