Sheffield Wednesday make stunning bid for Celtic defender

Match Day Celtic Park

We are now at the business end of the transfer window.

Hands up if you miss Jim White and his nasally voice whilst trying to make the same transfer news sound exciting for a full 24 hours?

Nah, me neither. So thank goodness he’s not around to report this.

Stephen Welsh is reportedly a transfer target for Sheffield Wenesday.

According to The Star, the Scotland u21 star is being ‘chased’ by the Championship promotion chasers and it seems that they have identified young Welsh as the ideal man to help bolster their bid for promotion to England’s second tier.

The report claims that Ange Postecoglou is ‘reluctant’ to let Welsh leave the club as he is an important squad player but if he was to be guaranteed game time, then the Celtic manager’s arm could be twisted.

Welsh hasn’t featured since the 2-0 loss to St Mirren earlier in the season.

He partnered former defender Moritz Jenz where questions were asked about both defenders physical attributes as the Buddies from line gave them a torrid time.

I think a move to a promotion chasing side will not only do wonders for his confidence but it will build character in the young man moving to a club chasing domestic honours.
