Who’s been the best player in Scotland in the last five years? It’s not who you would expect as Rangers writer takes deludamol

Celtic Park

As James Tavernier enjoys his induction into the Ibrox Hall of Shame, sorry I mean Fame, I find myself marvelling at just how low the new clubs standards have fallen.

The Hall of Fam inductees last night besmirched the memory of the dead club, and tarnished the reputation of the new one.

Steven Davis and Allan McGregor were inducted into the marble staircase photohop stall in a move that will have the old Rangers spinning in it’s grave.

Why? Eagle eyed readers will remember that both these players walked away and abandoned the old club whilst it’s body was still warm as they refused to TUPE their contracts onto the new club, trousering a pretty penny for themselves in the process.

And the new club? Well, if a Rangers captain who has watched his main rivals pick up an Invincibles season and a Quadruple Treble under his watch can now be regarded as a person that deserves to be in the hall of fame, how the standards have fallen.

And so has the standards of journalism when you look at this statement from Jonny McFarlane:

Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and James Forrest may all disagree with that.

The most cringey line in that tweet? ‘Captain of the 55’

That’s enough for me, I’m done!
