“People can say what they want” – Clyde pundit slaps down criticism of Celtic star whilst Hugh Keevins stays strangely quiet

Match Day Celtic Park

Carl Starfelt has been the subject of incessant criticism from a certain section of the not only the Scottish media, but the Celtic support.

The big Swede seems to be criticised heavily for mistakes he makes even though he is part of the best defence in the league. Two years in a row.

Many fans will say that he is a liability and is the weak link in the defence when, in fact, the opposite is true.

Whilst Starfelt was out this season injured, we conceded almost the same amount of goals during that period than we did all of last season.

Make of that what you will.

And Clyde pundit Marvin Bartley agreed that the criticism of the Swedish international is baffling.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Bartley said, “Starfelt is playing in the best defence in the league in terms of the goals that they concede.

So people can say what they want.

Maybe he’s uneasy on the eye, but the job of a defender is to keep the ball out the back of the net, stop shots on target for the opposition team, and he does that.”

Long term Starfelt critic, Hugh Keevins was sitting beside Bartley and was very quiet during his defence of the player.

Maybe that’s because as a former defender, Bartley knows what the hell he is talking about.
