It looks like now it is all over.

Giorgos Giakoumakis Celtic career has ended before it really got off the gorund.

The Greek international striker found himself out in the cold after rejecting a contract just before the World Cup and it looks like, now, the painful and slow ending of his Hoops career is set to end.

Marco Molla (the man who broke the Reo Hatate story last season) tweeted tonight that the deal would be signed ‘soon’ and that Giakoumakis is heading to the MLS to play for Atlanta United.

Translation: “Celtic accept offer for Giakoumakis, player agrees to move to Atlanta

Celtic get ¥690m [£4.15m] transfer fee including bonuses

It will be officially signed soon, and an official announcement is expected in the next few days.”

It really is a sad ending to what could have been a trophy laden career for the Greek but, clearly, he thought he was worth more than his actual value to the team.

Second behind Kyogo, Giakoumakis found himself coming off the bench more often than not and, to be fair to him, he did his job when called upon.

Now that his move is sealed, I will watch his career with earnest to see if he is as good as he believes he is as, no doubt, he will be Atlanta’s first choice striker.
