“I can’t believe” – John Hartson reacts to reason why ‘fantastic’ Celtic star wants to leave

Celtic are looking to let players leave this transfer window. There is no doubting that now considering the amount of transfer speculation surrounding the club.

With Josip Juranovic looking likely to leave the club this January, it was the news that Giorgos Giakoumakis is also set to leave in January that really irked the former Celtic striker.

Speaking on Go Radio, Hartson said, “If he was to leave Celtic because of his agent is holding out for a new deal, that’s one of the things that would really, really annoy me because they can’t come to an agreement.

It’s a nightmare for him because Kyogo is number one. I know myself, I had a similar experience myself, if you’re not playing.

I had a similar experience at Arsenal, Bergkamp and Wright was keeping me out the team and I wanted to play.

In the end left for West Ham. You want to play you know you don’t just want to be a bit part player and Giakoumakis comes on as sub.

But you know Giakoumakis is a top player. He’s proved that and we’ve only seen him for the best part of about a year.

And to let someone like that go because of a contract situation, I can’t believe the two parties can’t sit down and get round a table and everybody walks away happy and we keep a fantastic centre forward.”

If the player is unhappy at the terms offered then there is really nothing the club can do.

If the pay rise that is reported to have been promised to him hasn’t been made, then Giakoumakis should be pointing his finger at his agent for not getting it written into his contract instead of falling out with the club.

I hope GG stays. I think he’s a good striker to have around the club but I’m not going to get overly upset if Celtic don’t offer what he is looking for because, after all, he is not the top striker at the club.
