“That’s where he wants to go” – David Friel reveals Giakoumakis likely destination and details of £4.3m deal

Here’s hoping this one comes to a conclusion at some point today. Yesterday felt like a Giorgos Giakoumakis appreciation day with the amount of transfer updates and stories doing the rounds.

The on/off transfer to Urawa Reds is definitely off by the looks of it as journalist, David Friel reveals where the big Greek striker is likely to end up and has the inside knowledge of the deal that persuaded Celtic to accept.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Frile revealed, “It’s becoming a bit of a saga.

Yesterday it looked like it was Atlanta United, then it looked it was Urawa Reds. It now looks like it will be Atlanta United again.

I think they were initially wanting a loan with an option to buy.

It looks as if they have came back in with a deal with £3.5 million up front plus I think it’s £800,000 in add ons taking it up to about £4.3 million.

Giorgos Giakoumakis does prefer a move to America. That’s where he wants to go.

I don’t think he was overly keen on going to Japan but if that was going to be the best deal on the table, he was going to take it.

But it does look as if he will be heading to the MLS now.

But this is one where there’s been twists and turns so until he’s actually pictured with a scarf above his head I wouldn’t rule anything out.”

I’m with Friel. Let’s not count our chickens that GG is off until the heavy set lady in the back starts signing her song.
