There are a lot of transfer hard luck stories when it comes to Celtic.
Maybe hard luck is not the correct term to use, maybe near misses is a better term. But not for us.
I think I’ve confused the matter somewhat here so let me explain.
Celtic have been close to signing some real quality players over the years.
Looking at the last few seasons, John McGinn and Ivan Toney spring to mind.
Both players on the cusp of signing for our great club but as the deals fell through, they moved on and became a success at another. It happens.
But those are sore ones to take.
And it looks like we may have to endure another one as Republic of Ireland star Evan Ferguson explains.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Ferguson said, “When I came over they [Brighton] were definitely the team I wanted to join.
“I used to come over to all the clubs with my dad. He had a clue about what was going on so I think he was key. I have been on a trial to a few clubs but Liverpool was the main one other than Brighton.
“I was on trial with Manchester United, Celtic, and Everton. I think from the outside it was obvious to see that pathway and most of the managers here have given chances to young players.”
At just 18 years old, Ferguson has a lot of potential but after his first goal in his first start for his country, his name will be on the lips of many scouts this summer.
