Match Day Celtic Park

Celtic fan posts class radio commentary from famous title win

We all remember that infamous day in 1986. Celtic needed to beat St Mirren by three clear goals and hope that Hearts lost at Dundee to clinch the title. The Edinburgh side needed just a draw to be crowned champions. Goals from Brian McClair (2), Paul McStay and ‘him’ made sure that Celtic did their part so it was over to Dundee at Dens Park where Albert Kidd wrote his name into the Celtic history books:   As a young Celtic fan, I remember sitting next to my dad, watching the results come through on the BBC viddy printer (yes I am a Celtic dad) when he jumped up and smacked me with his paper in celebration! It was an incredible day that the Celtic fans of my generation will never forget. I swear that even till this day, the Hearts fans have never gotten over that. But for us, that was the second last title we ever won before Rangers went on to their nine-in-a-row run. It may not have been the most important title in our history. It was certainly one of the most dramatic.
