Former Celt backs transfer ‘no brainer’

As I reported earlier today, it looks like the Benji Siegrist move is going to be announced this week at some point after the goalkeeper was spotted at a Glasgow hotel.

There was talk that other clubs where interested in him but it seems that the move to Celtic is well under way.

And it has the backing of former Celtic star, Frank McAvennie.

Famed for his sometimes ‘eccentric’ and negative spin on Celtic, McAvennie gets this one spot on but warns Siegrist that he may not see much as much game time as he’s like.

“Barkas is away and Bain hasn’t done much wrong but he’s not a number one, for me,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“Siegrist could be number one. Not at the moment with Joe Hart the way he is.

“But, I think if he comes into the team when Joe is injured, I think it will be seamless. He is that good of a keeper.

“The boy has done well, there are a few teams after him. He will be the number two but there are that many games now, he will get games.

“Joe won’t be there forever either. It’s a no-brainer for me.”

Siegrist would be a great back up option for Celtic and it would tick off the list one of the vital positions Ange Postecoglou needs to address this summer.
